Privacy statement

We keep as little as we can: what we need to deliver your order, send the invoice and keep the records the law asks for.

This is a translation. If it differs from the Dutch version, the Dutch version applies.

Draft: being checked before launch.

Who we are

HappyStarters is a trade name of Stefan van Dockum, Populierstraat 10, 5271 NX Sint-Michielsgestel, the Netherlands. We are responsible for the personal data described here. Questions about it go to hi@happystarters.app.

What we keep

  • Orders. Your name, company, email address, billing and delivery address, VAT number if you give one, what you ordered, the amounts and whether it is paid.
  • Your account, if you make one. Your email address, name and company. You log in with a code or link sent to your email, so there is no password to keep.
  • Messages. What you write to us by email, and our answers.
  • Technical data. Our host keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the site running and safe.

Payment details such as card numbers never reach us: Stripe handles them.

What we use it for

  • Delivering your order and sending the invoice (to carry out our agreement with you).
  • Setting up digital products for your event (the same).
  • Keeping the records Dutch tax law requires (a legal obligation).
  • Answering your questions, and showing your orders in your account (the agreement, or our legitimate interest in helping you).
  • Keeping the site safe from abuse (our legitimate interest).

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, we don't use advertising or tracking cookies, we don't build profiles of you, and we don't send newsletters unless you ask for them.

Who helps us

These companies process data for us, each only for the task described:

  • Stripe payments, checkout and invoices.
  • Supabase our database and logins, in the EU (Ireland).
  • Vercel hosting of the site, with our server functions in Dublin.
  • Brevo sending emails, such as order notices and login codes (France).
  • Cloudflare domain names, and a check that a person is there on the login form when it is switched on.

Outside the EU

Stripe, Vercel and Cloudflare are companies from the United States. Where data may leave the EU, they use the safeguards the EU recognises, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Orders and invoices: seven years, because Dutch tax law requires it.
  • Your account: until you delete it. Your orders then stay for those seven years, but no longer linked to an account.
  • Emails: as long as we need them to help you, and at most two years.

Security

The site only works over a secure connection, access to order data is limited to the people who handle orders, and the database only answers our own server for anything that touches orders.

Cookies and local storage

We only use what the site needs to work: a cookie with your language choice and, when you log in, a cookie that keeps you logged in. Your cart and whether prices show with or without VAT are kept in your own browser's storage and never sent to us until you pay. There are no tracking or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner.

Your rights

You may ask us what we keep about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or get a copy to take elsewhere. Mail hi@happystarters.app; we answer within a month. Records the tax law requires us to keep, we can only delete after the seven years. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you may also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

When this statement changes, the date at the top changes too. If a change matters to you, we say so on the site.
